Is it just me or does this seem like a badly thought out one? I’m not questioning its feasibility or anything – throw a billion people at any venture and it is bound to be a success or rather won’t be a miserable failure. But, given how crowded our trains are, and how unsafe they feel at most times, I wonder how many people would dare withdrawing any amount of money in full view of a hundred people with whom they’d have to spend the next few hours / days. The other ATMs are different as one isn’t obliged to stick around the ATM and with the people around the ATM.

My evil mind already has a game to spook the users. Hang around these ATMs, the moment somebody uses it, follow them back and note down their seat numbers. On a 48 hour train, its bound to give them a couple of sleepless nights!

Jaidev:

There is some custom setting on your email client which is adding “|” characters and makes it pretty hard to follow the history of email. See below. Would appreciate if we can do something there.

Thanks
~~~~~~
I spent a good amount of time thinking what my response should be –
google.com/search?q=email+quoting
Don’t ****in read it, you inconsequential CC recipient
Eventually I chose discretion over valour and decided to post it here instead. Somebody in this industry has got to figure out what to do with pointy haireds‘ time.
Well, don’t worry anymore. I’ve decided to step up to curb the madness. Next time someone does that, point them to the official email HOWTO. In fact I suggest you preempt the nonsense by posting a print out on their workspaces!
This tiny piece of news made smile like I’d seen it all. I can only imagine what’s going on at Segway. The developers would be blaming the test team for not subjecting the product to thorough testing and finding the glitch in-house. The test team would (a) claim that they run more test cases than any similar companies, (b) complain that the specification isn’t detailed enough and (c) not have tested anything other than the user-interface. Amidst all this, there’d be a lot of graph plotting “higher-ups”, trying to get the most mileage out of the crisis.
Incidentally, this isn’t the first of Segway’s problems. When I tried one of those, I was told that one of the earlier versions had a bug in the low battery indicator. The indicator wouldn’t warn when it should, which meant people were caught unaware when the battery ran out! I’d rather not be on this gyroscopic thing when the battery runs out.
The New Testament said so -
But let your communication be Yea, yea; nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
– Matthew 5:37
Now, scientific research proved it -
Admissions to the emergency department at Laussanne University Hospital over an 18-month period from pool cue related mishaps and the like were much more frequent amongst less committed schnapps bingers. The pattern was the same for both men and women.
This was a thorough research, apparently. One just can’t ignore the fact that they’ve considered the other side to the argument too -
A further finding of the study, published in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, and to be filed under Bleedin’ Obvious, was that people who never drank were many times less likely to wind up in casualty.
There you have it, either go all the way or don’t do it at all. The world is binary I tell you.
I’ve seen that my own keyboard accumulates all sorts of crap over time. On plain keyboards, I used to simply invert the keyboard and tap a few times till I got rid of all the dirt. Its harder on a laptop. The other day, I saw a silverfish crawling out of my keyboard. I wonder how (and when) it got there?
